How to Deal with Downloaded Internet Files
If you are using Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), for example on a Windows Vista PC, you might see a popup which says:
Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded.
This will happen even if you allow files to be downloaded in the internet zone. You might try to change one of the
Miscellaneous security settings in the Internet Zone. In Internet Explorer, click the
Tools menu item, then click the
Internet Options sub-menu. This opens the
Internet Options window.
Click on the
Security tab, then select the
Internet zone. Click on the Custom Level... button. This opens the
Security Settings - Internet Zone window.
Scroll down to
Miscellaneous (its about half way down the screen). Now move slowly down to the
Launching applications and unsafe files item. If
Disable is checked on, click on the
Prompt (recommended) radio
button to enable it.
Then click
OK at the bottom of the window and then click
OK again at the bottom of the
previous window. You should now be able to download the file. If the file is an
EXE there are
safeguards which will prevent you from running the program immediately. See this
link for details.
